SMELL WHAT THE LORD IS BREWING (Updated)

God sent me ahead of you to rescue you in this amazing way and to make sure that you and your descendants survive.

                                              - Gen 45:7

What you just read is a statement that Joseph would never have made if things had not turned out the way they eventually did.

His blood  brothers sold him to slavery and lied about what they did to their father Jacob. Joseph was Jacob’s beloved son of his old age so he mourned him and refused to be comforted when he was told that a wild animal had killed him. In the middle of all this sorrow, Joseph’s wicked brother went about their businesses like nothing happened.

All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.                                                                -  Romans 8:28

The story of the brothers of Joseph is one of envy, hatred, and wickedness. Thirteen years later, Joseph's heartless brothers found themselves begging for food and their lives before the same man they hated but who had become a prime minister in Egypt. The trauma of the rejection and hatred Joseph faced, even in a place he once felt safe and secure, must have been immense. It's possible he preferred to remain in slavery and not speak of home because it felt safer to be away from home, or that there was no home anywhere after all.

Joseph's life was marked by a series of events that seemed to be orchestrated by God, using the hatred, envy, and rejections of his brothers to shape his destiny. Despite the difficult experiences he faced, including being sold into slavery and falsely accused, Joseph never lost faith in the divine plan. Through it all, he held onto the belief that there was a purpose for his trials and tribulations.

As time went on, Joseph rose to prominence as a prime minister in Egypt, and it was then that his brothers found themselves in need of his help. When they stood before him, begging for their lives, all of Joseph's bitterness, depression, and thoughts of retaliation melted away. He spoke to them with grace and understanding, saying, "God sent me ahead of you to preserve your lives..."

Joseph's words were a testament to the transformative power of faith and the ability to forgive and move forward, even in the face of great adversity. The events in his life may have been difficult, but they ultimately led to a greater good and a greater destiny. Through it all, Joseph remained steadfast in his belief that God was in control, and it was this faith that sustained him and allowed him to find peace and purpose in his trials.

Joseph forgave his brothers easily as he realized that their actions were part of God's plan for him, rather than simply being the result of their cruelty. He no longer saw his brothers as the source of his suffering, but rather as instruments in a larger divine plan. This shift in perspective allowed him to let go of any bitterness and extend forgiveness without struggle. Joseph's ability to forgive demonstrates the power of a higher understanding and the transformative effects of faith.

This story shows us that even in the face of adversity, we can choose to see the bigger picture and find purpose in our struggles. Joseph's ability to forgive his brothers teaches us the virtue of letting go of bitterness and extending grace to others, regardless of the hurt they may have caused us. By embracing a higher understanding and letting go of our anger and pain, we can experience true peace and freedom. Let us all strive to emulate Joseph's unwavering faith and learn from his example of forgiveness and grace.

May you find comfort in knowing that God is in control and that all the difficulties in your life have a purpose. May your eyes be opened to see the bigger picture and the ways in which God is using everything for your good. May you have the patience to trust in God's plan, even when things don't make sense. May you experience peace and joy as you see God at work in your life, and may you be blessed beyond measure as you trust in Him. In Jesus' name, Amen
