SPIRITUAL GROWTH: A NECESSITY FOR A VICTORIOUS LIFE
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.- 1 Peter 2:2 (NIV)
As Christians, we have been given the authority to rule and reign in life as kings and priests in God's kingdom. We are co-heirs with Christ, and all that He has is ours. However, even as children of God, we are still subject to the influences of the world, and if we do not grow spiritually, the enemy can ruin us and take our life. Therefore, spiritual growth is of utmost importance if we want to live a victorious life.
When Jesus was born, King Herod sought to kill Him. But when He became an adult, He declared that no one could take His life from Him. He willingly laid down His life and took it up again because He had the authority to do so. We, too, have been given authority in Christ, but if we do not mature spiritually, we will not be able to exercise that authority effectively.
No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.- John 10:18
Being born again is just the beginning of our journey with God. We must also grow and mature in our faith. The devil seeks to deceive and destroy us, but if we are spiritually mature, we will be able to resist him and put him in his place. As the Bible says, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7).
Just as physical growth requires good nourishment, spiritual growth requires nourishment from the Word of God. The Word is our spiritual food, and we should desire it like newborn babies crave milk. In fact, as we have seen in our opening scripture, the Bible tells us that we should desire the sincere milk of the Word so that we may grow thereby. The Word provides the nourishment we need for our spiritual growth and maturity. Through the Word, we learn about God's nature and character, His promises and His will for our lives. As we study the Word, we build up our faith, and we are equipped to handle the challenges of life. The truth is, we become spiritually mature as we grow, and so we are able to overcome the enemy and walk in victory.
Any one who desires to encounter God in a higher dimension, must be willing to grow spiritually. God will not take us to higher levels until we are ready to handle the responsibilities that come with those levels. As the Bible says, to whom much is given, much is expected. We must be prepared to grow and mature in our faith so that we can handle the greater things that God has for us.
As we pray and seek God's face while studying His word, our faith will be built up, and we will experience the growth that will bring us into our inheritance. We must be determined to take charge of our lives and stop all unpleasant surprises coming from the devil. As we study God's Word and pray, we will become spiritually mature and able to exercise the authority that God has given us.
God will not commit kingdom resources or responsibilities beyond our level of growth to our hands. He would rather wait for us to grow up until we can manage them. Therefore, let us be diligent in our pursuit of spiritual growth, knowing that it is the key to living a victorious life in Christ.
I pray that your week will be filled with victorious experiences as the Holy Spirit leads you hand in hand through all the exercises of your growth process in Jesus name.
Growth is indeed necessary!
