FAILED BUT RESTORED BY GRACE
When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
-John 8:10 - 11
I know the topic sounds very much like a contradiction, and it violates the justice system in all cultures. How would an obvious criminal be justified and declared blameless? You may say it’s a perversion of justice but this is possible because someone else willingly offered to pay for the offense. This is the grace of God through Jesus Christ.
The woman in the scripture above was caught red-handed in adultery and brought before Jesus to be judged. The law demands that she should be stoned to death, but to the disappointment of her accusers, she was forgiven and free. She left with the empowerment to go and sin no more. She found grace instead of condemnation because she was brought before Jesus.
Have you dipped yourself at some point into a mess that has become an open secret and everyone now knows you to be unclean, sinner, cheat, wayward, prostitute, drunk or junky, God is not out to pronounce judgment and condemn you. Instead, He wants to wash you clean, forgive you and make you altogether whole by His loving grace.
Today, if you will repent like the prodigal son who rebelliously left home for a foreign country and squandered all the inheritance he got from his father. The bible says he spent all his money on wild living. When he was done spending all the money he had on him, he became hungry and homeless in the foreign land and all those that joined him to spend the money deserted him. At that point, he came back to his senses and realized what evil he had done and decided to go back home. The bible captures his turning point prayer as follows.
When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants. So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate
- Luke 15: 17 - 24
What an amazing story of unconditional love. His father accepted him back the moment he repented and returned home in spite of his sins. This is the kind of love and grace that God is extending to you today with his hands stretched out toward you.
Just come before Jesus. He will receive and declare you justified and blameless because He already paid for your sins and took the punishment for your errors upon Himself.
He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.
- 1 Peter 2:24
