SET YOUR EYES ON THE REWARD
I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
- Philipians 3:14
My father's words still echo in my mind as he taught me the valuable lesson of the importance of hard work and determination. He explained to me that valuable things in life are not easily obtained and often require effort and dedication to attain. To drive his point home, he bent down and scooped up a handful of sand, placing it in my open palm. "How much would you pay for this?" he asked. Without hesitation, I replied "Nothing. It's just sand and it's everywhere." He smiled and reached for a small, raw gold nugget from a box by his side. "And how about this? Would you pay 200 thousand for it?" I eagerly nodded, knowing the worth of gold far exceeded that of sand.
My father then asked me why a small object like the gold nugget could be worth so much more. I thought for a moment before realizing, "It's because of its uses and how hard it is to find one." My father placed his hand on my shoulder and pulled me close, whispering "They dug for it. And even though it was exhausting reaching where it was, they kept digging because of the gold reward they set their minds on. If you don't take your eyes off the reward of your labour, you will always be inspired to keep digging." His words have stuck with me, reminding me to always strive for the things I truly desire and not to give up when the going gets tough
Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God
From that day forward, I knew that focusing on the reward of my efforts was a powerful motivator. Contemplating the prize at the end of the journey made the hard work feel worth it. When my mind is set on the reward and the sacrifices it may require, the journey becomes enjoyable. The process of digging for gold, which once seemed daunting, now becomes an exciting part of the pursuit. By keeping the end goal in mind, I am able to push through any challenges and stay committed to my purpose. I realized that the reward is what keeps me going and it's the driving force behind my ambition.
Furthermore, I learned that the process itself is also an opportunity to gain experience. However, I must note that going through many things in life does not necessarily equate to true experience. It's what one learns and takes away from the process that truly shapes them into a valuable asset in the workplace or a better partner in a relationship. The experience gained from the struggles and challenges encountered during the pursuit of a goal, is what makes a person stand out and be preferred for a job, or be a better partner in a relationship. It's not just about going through the motions, but about what one learns and applies from them that truly counts.
It's crucial that one doesn't squander the opportunities to gain valuable experiences in life. Every time one shirks responsibilities or doesn't put in their best effort on an assignment because of the challenges they present, they are missing the chance to improve their skills and build the character that makes a person. Every opportunity to gain experience should be seen as a precious chance to grow, both personally and professionally. Hence, it's important to not waste these opportunities and to approach them with a positive attitude, ready to learn and improve.
Learn to face your fears head-on and conquer them. Pursue the life you desire, no matter what obstacles may stand in your way. Remember that the land of abundance and success, the "land flowing with milk and honey," is often behind the giants that seem to block your path. Don't be afraid to take them on and push through to reach your goals. Don't let fear or uncertainty hold you back. Take the bull by the horns, and go for what you want in life. It's the only way to truly achieve the life you desire.
I was once asked why God would allow the giants to occupy the promised land before the Israelites arrived. The person argued that if the inhabitants of Canaan had been ordinary humans, the Israelites would have been more encouraged to go and claim it. In my response, I asked the person what a security guard should look like and they said a security guard should be strong and heavily built. "There you go," I said. "God used the giants to secure the 'milk and honey' He was preserving for the Israelites, but they misinterpreted the presence of the giants as an insurmountable obstacle." The giants were not meant to discourage the Israelites, but to protect the land and secure the treasure in it before their arrival. If the Israelites had seen the giants this way and not as a barrier to their success, the narrative would have been different. Joshua and Caleb are testifiers to this
It's important to understand that advancement and success don't come without challenges and obstacles. Don't get frustrated with the world because you have to put in effort and work hard to achieve your goals. Instead, embrace the struggles and challenges as a necessary part of the journey. Remember that promotion, whether in a career or personal life, often requires a test of one's abilities and determination. So, don't be discouraged by the "fight" you may have to give to deliver your purpose, but instead see it as a stepping stone to your ultimate success.
Today say to yourself:
I am stronger than any challenge that comes my way. I will not give up. I do not see obstacles, only a process that I must work through. Like a determined go-getter, I will take the bull by the horns and reach my goals in Jesus' name. I trust in my God given abilities and in the power of my faith in Him to help me overcome any obstacle and achieve my aspirations. I am determined to succeed and I will not be discouraged by the challenges that may come my way. .
