Q & A: WHY AM I FINDING IT DIFFICULT TO PRAY
I discovered that my prayer life has deteriorated in recent times. I just feel dirty and unworthy to come before the Lord. I used to wake up very early in the morning for my morning devotion but I have not been consistent in recent times. Once I miss my morning prayer for four days it becomes difficult to resume. Even when I repent and resume the prayers I still nurse the fear of missing it later, which always happens. I am confused right now. Please how can I break this circle?
I like to commend your strong desire to build a consistent prayer life and communicate with God every morning, and I believe this is why you are concerned that your efforts are not yielding the fruit you desire. I need you to understand that it takes time to develop consistency in any domain of life. You have to be patient with yourself. When you miss the target, you resume your effort.
Nevertheless, you need to identify why you are finding it difficult to be consistent in your prayer life? Are you overworked? Do you sleep early enough? Are you battling some unhealthy habits? Are you disobeying the Holy Spirit in any way? The life of a believer is one that requires continuous alertness to the things which we have heard and received because they can easily slip (Heb 2:1: 2Cor 13:5). I’m glad you noticed something amiss in your prayers. It means you are still sensitive. But then you don’t have to live under guilt and self-condemnation. Even if you’re struggling with a sin in your life, confess it to God and resume your prayers. Satan likes to keep Christians away from prayer by constantly reminding them of their sin and inadequacy, but you don’t have to believe Satan's record about you. As a child of God, what God says about you is more important than what the devil says.
So go back to your prayers and just start praying. Remember the father of the prodigal son? He accepted his lost son back into his house despite what the prodigal son had done. That’s just the way our Father is. He is waiting for you. Recovery with God is not tedious.
THEY HAVE USED SOMETHING TO COVER MY GLORY. PLEASE WHAT DO I DO
I remember going to a man of God with my Mum about fifteen years ago and the prophet said something has been used to cover my glory. Though he organized a series of deliverance programs for me, I am yet to see a difference in my life. Right now I feel caged and impotent. I am a teacher but I have nothing to show for all my labour. At 31, I am living from hands to mouth. I cannot even consider having a relationship. Please sir, how can I help myself?
It is unfortunate that many people, though they claim to believe in Jesus Christ, place more premium on the words of prophets than the Bible which is the infallible word of God. Therein lies the prison yard and the limitation of so many people today.
This prophet has succeeded in manipulating you to believe a lie. If truly something is covering your glory I expect the covering to have been removed with the number of deliverances you have gone through. The fact that you still sense the “something” being present shows you’re believing an illusion. Rather than being cannon fodder for “prophets” you need to come to grips with who you are in Christ.
The question is “Are you born again? Have you accepted Jesus Christ into your life? This is the first step if you want to experience freedom from any form of spiritual or emotional bondage. When you’re born again you become a new creature and you have a new identity which is not subject to the ordinances of this world. You have to believe what the Bible says about your new identity in Christ that - you’re a new creature, formed in the image of the invisible Christ.
Colosians 2:8 says
“See to it that no one enslaves you by means of worthless deceit of human wisdom which comes from the teachings handed down by human beings and from the ruling spirits of the universe, and not from Christ”.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you are not deceived by false teachings, and the best way to ensure you develop understanding of your new relationship with Christ is by being in an environment where truth is taught so that you grow spiritually.
I strongly advise you to read the Gospel of John to Jude. Read it several times so that you can anchor your new identity to Christ. Live with that reality of your new identity in Christ and see the changes you expect in your life.
Choose to align and keep affirming your positional reality in Christ. Make it your singular outlook on life, and therefore the basis of your every action and expectation. You will soon begin to see yourself, no longer as a victim but, as a victor indeed. (2Cor 4:17-18)
